Initial Assessment and Smile Analysis
Your veneer journey begins with a comprehensive consultation, the most important appointment in the entire process. Our dentist will examine your teeth thoroughly, discuss your aesthetic goals and expectations in detail, assess the health of your teeth and gums, and evaluate whether veneers are the most appropriate treatment for your concerns.
Local Anaesthetic
Before preparation begins, local anaesthetic is administered to ensure complete comfort throughout the appointment. You should feel pressure but not pain during the preparation process.
Tooth Preparation
To accommodate the thickness of a porcelain veneer, typically 0.5 to 0.7 millimetres, a thin, precise layer of enamel is removed from the front surface of each tooth receiving a veneer. This is a permanent alteration of the tooth structure. Once enamel is removed, it cannot be replaced, which is why veneer treatment is considered irreversible.
Impressions
Once the teeth are prepared, detailed impressions are taken of the prepared teeth and the surrounding bite. These impressions are sent to a specialist dental laboratory where your custom porcelain veneers are individually crafted by a skilled ceramist to the agreed specifications, shade, shape, size, and surface texture.
Shade Selection

Temporary Veneers
Temporary veneers are placed over the prepared teeth while the permanent porcelain veneers are being fabricated, a process that typically takes 1 to 2 weeks. The temporaries protect the prepared teeth, maintain appearance, and give you a preview of the general shape and size of the planned result. Treat temporary veneers with care. Avoid hard or sticky foods and be gentle when cleaning around them.
Trial Placement
When your permanent veneers arrive from the laboratory, you will return for your fitting appointment. Each veneer is first placed on the tooth without bonding, using a try-in gel that allows us to assess the fit, the colour, and the appearance of each veneer before it is permanently bonded. This is your opportunity to review the result and raise any concerns before the veneers are cemented.
Tooth Surface Preparation and Bonding

The veneer is then precisely seated on the tooth and bonded with a light-cured dental cement.
